CULTURES AND ENVIRONMENT

Did you know? 80% of natural wealth is protected by indigenous cultures. We thank the cultures that fight for a better world by protecting natural resources, the source of life for humanity.

The diversity of cultures on the planet is of great value to the environment, for years and years aboriginal cultures have taught us the close relationship that has existed between human beings and mother nature. For example, Costa Rica is a multicultural and multiethnic country that enriches our history and at the same time supports and invests in the conservation of the environment, since as species we depend on air, soil, water, and other natural resources to coexist.

Within the framework of cultures, we must recognize and appreciate the contributions that cultures make in favor of the protection of natural resources, resources that we all need. Today, challenges such as climate change undoubtedly force us to be more aware of how we are managing natural resources to achieve greater efficiency and sustainability for all, as ancestral cultures have done generation after generation. This is a great opportunity for the new leaders that humanity and the planet need. You could be a leader, maybe that is why your destiny brought you to this text.

An example is the indigenous peoples, which are cultures that adapt to and respect natural resources, obtaining benefits, creating a very positive synergy in terms of the use and management of their natural resources, protecting the soil, water, forests, and crop systems which are efficient and ensure food safety. Without a doubt, we must continue learning from our ancestors and exchanging experiences to maintain a positive balance between Mother Earth and our current way of living.

On the other hand, the biological diversity that exists in the indigenous territories is of the utmost importance for scientific and research communities, since they are genetic reservoirs of many species of flora and fauna that are currently vulnerable to the effects of climate change and in these habitats, many species find refuge, food, and protection from the fragmentation of the forests due to changes in land use.

In addition, indigenous cultures throughout history have provided our societies with food bases such as corn, wheat, and rice which are very important sources in the diets of human beings, as well as in natural medicine, languages, and history. For this reason, we must feel very proud of each culture on this planet and work together for the common good; protect our environment, respect, and consider every thought, to leave a better future for the generations that come after us.

For the planet, every culture counts!!
